How to Check Your Dear Lottery Result

Checking a Lottery Sambad ticket takes under a minute if you go in the right order. Most arguments at the counter come from matching against the wrong draw, not from a genuine printing error.

1. Confirm the draw time on your ticket. Every ticket is printed with its draw time. A 6 PM number will never appear in the 8 PM winner list.
2. Confirm the draw name and date. Names rotate on a seven-day cycle, so the same name returns every week. Check it against today's chart below.
3. Match the first prize on the full number, series letters included.
4. Match lower prizes on the ending digits. Second to fifth prizes are declared on trailing digits, and any series holding those digits wins.
5. Verify against the official PDF before you claim. That PDF is the document a claims officer will accept.

What Lottery Sambad actually is

Sambad is a long-running Bengali daily published from Kolkata, and its lottery pages carried state lottery results at a time when there was no other reliable way to see them the same day. The results section became so widely read that the phrase "Lottery Sambad" stopped meaning a newspaper column and started meaning the draws themselves. Ask for the Lottery Sambad result anywhere in West Bengal, Assam or the North East and everyone understands that you mean that day's Dear Lottery numbers.

The name covers two separate government lotteries running on one shared daily rhythm. The Nagaland State Lottery holds the 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM draws. The Sikkim State Lottery holds the 6:00 PM draw. Both are marketed under the "Dear" brand, both sell at ₹7 a ticket, and both carry a ₹1 crore first prize, which is why buyers treat them as one product even though the organising states differ.

Is it legal?

Yes, in the states that run and permit it. India's Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998 lets individual state governments organise their own paper lotteries, and Nagaland and Sikkim both do so through their finance departments with appointed distributors. Draws are conducted publicly under supervision and results are published as official documents. That said, lotteries are banned outright in a number of Indian states, so whether you may legally buy a ticket depends on where you are standing, not on where the draw takes place.

The three daily draws

• 1:00 PM, Nagaland State Lottery. The afternoon draw, and the quietest of the three.
• 6:00 PM, Sikkim State Lottery. Many people still call this the West Bengal draw out of habit, because that association ran for years before the Sikkim series took over.
• 8:00 PM, Nagaland State Lottery. The largest of the three by ticket volume.

How to claim a prize

Small prizes are usually paid at the counter where you bought the ticket, subject to the agent holding enough cash. Larger prizes go through the state's formal claim process. You submit the original winning ticket, signed on the reverse, to the directorate or an authorised bank branch, together with photo identification, your PAN, proof of address and a completed claim form. Verification generally takes a few working days once the paperwork is complete, and prizes above the statutory threshold have tax deducted at source. Keep the ticket flat, dry and unlaminated. A damaged or altered ticket can be rejected outright.

Every number on this page is read directly from the result gazette published by the organising state, not copied from another results site. The same PDF you download here is the file the directorate released. If a gazette is delayed, the section stays blank rather than showing a guess.

Dear Morning, Dear Day, Dear Evening and Dear Night

You will see the same three draws described in several different ways, which is the single most common source of confusion for new ticket buyers. The 1:00 PM draw is often called Dear Morning or the morning result, even though it is held at midday. The 6:00 PM draw is called Dear Day or the evening result. The 8:00 PM draw is called Dear Night or the night result.

None of these names is printed on the ticket itself. What is printed on your ticket is the draw time and the series name for that day, such as Dear Victory or Dear Horizon. If someone tells you the Dear Night result is out, they mean the 8:00 PM winner list. Match the printed time, and the naming does not matter.

Lottery Sambad first, second and third result

Some ticket sellers count the draws in order rather than by time. First result means 1:00 PM, second result means 6:00 PM, and third result means 8:00 PM. All three appear on this page in that order.

Which States Run These Draws

Lottery Sambad is not one lottery. It is a shared name for the results of several state lotteries that follow the same daily rhythm, the same ₹7 ticket price and the same prize ladder.

Nagaland State Lottery result

The Government of Nagaland has run its state lottery since 1972, through the Directorate of Nagaland State Lotteries under the Finance Department. Nagaland conducts the 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM draws, which between them account for most of the tickets sold. Draws are held at Kohima and the results are issued as signed gazettes. Both Nagaland results are published on this page every day.

Sikkim State Lottery result

Sikkim State Lotteries conducts the 6:00 PM draw. The prize structure matches Nagaland's exactly, and tickets are sold through the same distributor network, which is why buyers rarely distinguish between them.

West Bengal State Lottery result

A great many people still search for the West Bengal lottery result when they mean the 6:00 PM draw. That association is historical. The evening slot ran under a West Bengal series for years before Sikkim took it over, and the habit stuck. If you bought a ticket for the 6:00 PM draw, the Sikkim result on this page is the one you want. West Bengal separately runs its own Rajya Lottery draws under the state's Directorate of State Lotteries, which follow a different schedule.

Mizoram, Punjab and other state lotteries

Mizoram, Punjab, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh also permit state lotteries under the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998. Punjab in particular runs the widely followed Dear Bumper series. These draws have their own schedules and are not part of the daily 1 PM, 6 PM and 8 PM cycle.

Ticket Price and Where Tickets Are Sold

A daily Dear Lottery ticket costs ₹7, printed on the face of the ticket. Bumper tickets cost more and are announced separately for each draw.

Tickets are sold only on paper, through licensed counters, kiosks and street agents in states where lotteries are permitted. There is no official app, website or online checkout for buying a daily Dear Lottery ticket. Anyone offering to sell you one online, or to book a number in advance, is operating outside the official system.

Each ticket carries a series prefix followed by a five-digit number, for example 91J 46127. The series is the part that matters for the first prize and is ignored for the lower tiers.

How to Claim a Lottery Sambad Prize

The process depends on how much you have won.

Prizes up to ₹10,000

These are normally paid in cash at the counter or by the agent who sold the ticket, subject to the agent having enough cash on hand. Take the original ticket. Many agents settle the next morning rather than on the night of the draw.

Prizes above ₹10,000

Larger prizes go through the state's formal claim process. You will generally need:

1. the original winning ticket, signed on the reverse, with your name and address;
2. a completed prize claim form from the organising state's directorate;
3. photo identification, such as Aadhaar, voter ID, passport or driving licence;
4. your PAN card, since tax is deducted at source above the statutory threshold;
5. proof of address and passport-size photographs;
6. bank account details for the transfer.

Claims are submitted to the Director of the organising state lottery or to a nodal office, usually within 30 days of the draw date. Verification and payment normally take a few working days once the paperwork is complete.

Mistakes that get a claim rejected

• A damaged ticket. Torn, washed, faded or laminated tickets can be refused outright. Keep it flat and dry.
• Missing the deadline. An unclaimed ticket becomes worthless once the claim window closes.
• Any alteration. Writing over the number or trying to repair a tear voids the ticket.
• A photocopy or photograph. Only the original paper ticket is accepted.

No genuine prize ever requires an advance payment. If anyone asks you for a fee, tax, courier charge or clearance payment before releasing a prize, or asks for your OTP or bank password, it is a fraud. Report it to your local police cyber cell.

Dear Bumper Draws

Alongside the daily draws, the organising states run bumper lotteries tied to festivals and seasons. These carry a higher ticket price and a far larger top prize, and they are drawn once on an announced date rather than every day.

Checking an Old Lottery Sambad Result

Old tickets turn up. A ticket found in a shirt pocket or a drawer a few weeks later is still worth checking, provided the claim window has not closed.

Every past draw is archived by date on our old results page, with the full winner list for all three draws and the same official PDF that was published on the day. Find the date on your ticket, open that day's page, and match the number exactly as you would for a live result.

Result charts covering a full month are also useful if you buy regularly and want to see how the series names cycle through the week.

What Time Each Result Is Published

The draw time printed on your ticket is when the draw is conducted, not when the result reaches the internet. There is always a short gap while the gazette is prepared, signed and released.

All times are Indian Standard Time. The 8:00 PM result is the one most likely to run late, simply because it is the busiest draw of the day and the most people are refreshing at once.

Why a result is sometimes delayed

Delays are normal and rarely mean anything is wrong. The usual causes are a late start at the draw venue, a slow release of the signed gazette, or a public holiday affecting office hours. On rare occasions a draw is postponed by the state, in which case the result appears the following day.

If a section on this page still says the gazette has not been released, the state has not published it yet. We do not fill the gap with a guess, and we would rather be a few minutes behind than wrong.

Every draw on this page has a download button beneath its winner list. The file is the official gazette exactly as the state released it, not a copy we have retyped, which is why it is the version to use if you are about to make a claim.

1. Find the draw you need, then tap the download button under that winner list.
2. On Android the file usually lands in your Downloads folder. On iPhone it opens in the Files app.
3. Open it with any PDF reader. Most phones have one built in, so no extra app is needed.
4. Zoom in before you compare. The numbers are small, and a misread digit is the most common cause of a wrong conclusion.

How Many Prizes Are Given, and What the Odds Are

It is worth being clear-eyed about this before you buy. A single ₹7 ticket has a genuinely small chance of winning the first prize, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

What the prize structure does offer is a large number of small prizes. The fifth prize alone covers a long list of four-digit endings, so a modest win of ₹120 is far more common than most people assume. The first prize of ₹1 crore goes to exactly one ticket number per draw, matched on the full number including the series.

Because the lower tiers are matched on trailing digits only, a single lucky ending can pay out across every series in circulation. This is why you occasionally hear of an entire counter's worth of tickets winning the same small prize.

There is no system, pattern or prediction that improves your odds. Each draw is independent of the last. A number that came up yesterday is exactly as likely to come up today as any other. Anyone selling guaranteed numbers, leaked results or a winning formula is running a fraud.

Common Mistakes When Checking a Ticket

Almost every dispute at a counter traces back to one of these, rather than to a genuine error in the gazette.

• Checking against the wrong draw. A 6:00 PM ticket will never appear in the 8:00 PM list. Confirm the time printed on the ticket first.
• Checking the wrong date. Draw names repeat every seven days, so a name matching is not enough. The date must match too.
• Matching the series on a lower prize. Second prize downward is decided on the trailing digits alone. Your series does not need to match.
• Ignoring the series on the first prize. The opposite mistake. The first prize needs the complete number, series included.
• Misreading similar digits. On a worn ticket 3 and 8, 5 and 6, and 1 and 7 are easily confused. Check in good light.
• Trusting a screenshot. Numbers circulating on WhatsApp are frequently out of date or altered. Verify against the official PDF.
• Throwing the ticket away too early. Keep it until you have checked the official gazette, not just a results page.

A Short History of the Dear Lottery

Nagaland began running a state lottery in 1972, shortly after statehood, as a way of raising revenue without raising taxes in a state with a small formal economy. The Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998 later put every state lottery in India on a common legal footing, setting out how draws must be conducted and results published.

The Dear branding came with the appointment of a national distributor, which is why draws organised by different state governments carry the same name, the same ₹7 price and the same prize ladder. To a ticket buyer they behave as one product.

The popular name came from somewhere else entirely. Sambad, a Bengali daily published from Kolkata, printed the winning numbers each day at a time when there was no faster way to see them. Its lottery pages were so widely read that people began asking for the Lottery Sambad result when they meant the draws themselves. The newspaper column gave its name to the lottery, and the name outlived the habit of reading it in print.
